Next Generation Award photo story Gold Prize

ー What made you decide to apply to Nikon Photo Contest? Do you have any stories and struggles leading up to the application process?

My primary reason for entering the Nikon Photo Contest was to express myself and the environment around me. If I remember correctly, I entered just before the deadline. After I was notified that I had won an award, the language barrier and the frequent communication with Nikon were quite a problem.

ー Do you have any episode when taking the award-winning photo/film?

At first, the young men in the bathing photo wouldn't give me permission to take their picture. But it was mid summer and hot, so they agreed in exchange for two cans of cold soda.

ー What specific changes have occurred to you, and have there been any changes in your career or in the way people evaluate you after you won the award?

After receiving the award, I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to interact with some outstanding international photographers and exhibition organizers with Nikon's help. Some exposure in the photography industry has strengthened my resolve to continue shooting.

ー What kind of activities have you been doing recently?

I've always wanted to photograph my hometown, and I'd been mulling the plan around in my head for a while before I took the pictures for my "Fanghua—Moments in Our Youthful Days" photo story.

ー Do you have advice for your followers who may be considering participation in future Nikon Photo Contest?

Every person has their own unique reasons for picking up a camera. I hope that anyone with an interest in photography will be exposed to a variety of photographic genres, and will find a theme that interests them greatly.

ー What does “taking photos/films” mean to you?

For me, photography is a kind of lifestyle. It is a way to get to know the world, and at the same time, reflect the advances I make in various fields other than photography.
