About the Nikon Photo Contest

History

The Nikon Photo Contest International has been held by Nikon Corporation since 1969 to provide an opportunity for professional and amateur photographers around the world to engage with one another.

In the last 10 years, with digital cameras with video capabilities having become increasingly popular, the environment surrounding image-making has dramatically changed. Adapting to this change, the 34th contest was reconceived, changing its name and its structure, and it continues to evolve to create new standards and provide new opportunities for discovery.

Vision

The Nikon Photo Contest nurtures an aspirational community of creators who share important stories and influence the way people think through the global language of imaging.

Nikon Photo Contest 2022-2023 Message

Greetings

How wonderful it would be if an image that offers hope to all of us embarking on a new way of life were to appear. Even the most mundane objects and aspects of everyday life can be incredible when viewed through the eyes of a creator.
The Nikon Photo Contest has been held since 1969 to provide an opportunity for creators to deliver their own messages regardless of their age, nationality, or experience, through categories that are suited to the times, and shared exciting and moving images with a broad and diverse audience over its history of more than half a century.
Nikon will continue to support creators and assist them in sharing their images with the world.

This Contest offers both Photo and Short Film Competitions.
The theme of the Photo Competition is “Beloved”. We look forward to receiving imaging works based on topics and ideas you feel are important.
The theme of the Short Film Competition is “Next Steps”. We look forward to entries that reflect this theme of further growth and evolution in the future. In response to the changing times, the Short Film Competition is comprised of two categories that differ in terms of the length of entries, “Short Film Category” (180–300 s) and “Super Short Film Category” (20–40 s).
Please challenge yourself to create such works in a way that fits with the specified themes.

Even as we pursue the possibilities imaging offers, our objective is to share new forms of value afforded by images with as many people as possible. We hope you will see the Contest as an opportunity to express your own inner creative power through imaging and offer others the strength to move forward so that we may all meet the future together.
