Nikon Photo Contest 2020 - 2021 Judges

Yurie Nagashima

In 2020, our world has faced great challenges. We have been forced to make changes in every aspect of our lives, from how we work, to how we interact with other people. If you look at it another way, it can also be said that we have been presented with the time and opportunity to reflect on things that cannot be easily changed, things that we as human beings should never change, and our individual and collective roles in society and the natural world.
Restrictions are tough—but turning these sorts of experiences into a positive force may be the most exciting aspect behind acts of expression. I am very interested to know how the artist adjusts to the new world and interprets the things that remain—how he or she lends their power of expression to future progress. I look forward to seeing many works that surprise, as well as instill hope in its viewers.
