Thanks to Nikon for selecting one of my personal favourite photographs as a winner! I am fortunate to be born and settled in Kolkata, which offers such a wide variety of subjects on the life of the people that I like most to cover.
This photograph was taken in the eastern fringes of the growing city of Kolkata, where new townships are being built and more and more condominiums are filling up the cityscape, but for the people living in the edge of the society, like this poor migrant labour family shown in the photograph, it is impossible to afford one. So they have to settle for makeshift arrangements as their shelter. This particular family is using an abandoned jeep as their shelter. They were very courteous and helpful and enjoyed the shooting.
